Student discounts: what proof you may need
Many brands offer reduced prices to students, but each one decides who qualifies and how you prove it — knowing what to expect saves time at the till or checkout.

Common types of proof
Which proof is accepted depends entirely on the brand, so check the offer terms first.
- A physical or digital student ID card.
- An official student email, often ending in .ac.uk.
- A third-party verification service.
- A letter or enrolment confirmation.
Who counts as a student varies
Some offers are for full-time university students only. Others include part-time students, postgraduates, college students or sixth-form students. Check the eligibility wording rather than assuming the same rules apply everywhere.
Digital or physical proof varies
Some brands accept a photo or screenshot, while others insist on the physical card. Online offers commonly need an email or verification step, often renewed each academic year.
Watch the small print
- Selected products only.
- Cannot be combined with other codes or sale prices.
- Limited to certain months.
- Re-verification may be required.
Staying safe
- Only enter student details on the brand’s own site or a chosen verification service.
- Be cautious if a site asks for bank details just to “verify” you.
- Do not share a copy of your ID with anyone you do not need to.
- If a deal looks too good to be true, check the brand’s official website directly.
Quick checklist
- Who qualifies (full-time, part-time, college).
- Accepted proof.
- In-store, online or both.
- What the discount covers.
- Renewal or expiry.
- Can it be combined with other offers.
